Jewish Burial Support & Chevra Kadisha Coordination.

Jewish tradition holds that how we accompany our dead is as sacred as how we accompany our living. The rituals surrounding Jewish death and burial -- Tahara, Shmirah, the work of the Chevra Kadisha -- are among the most profound acts of lovingkindness in Jewish life. They ensure that every person, regardless of their station in life, is treated with the same dignity, care, and reverence at the end of it.

As a Jewish woman who grew up immersed in these traditions, and as an end-of-life doula deeply familiar with Jewish burial practices, I offer compassionate support for Jewish individuals and families in Los Angeles navigating the sacred terrain of dying and burial.

What Jewish Burial Support Includes

  • Chevra Kadisha coordination: The Chevra Kadisha is the sacred Jewish burial society responsible for preparing the body for burial. I can help families understand this process, connect with their local Chevra Kadisha, and navigate what is required and what is available in the Los Angeles Jewish community.

  • Tahara guidance: Tahara is the ritual washing and purification of the body before burial. I can explain this practice to families who are unfamiliar with it, help them understand what happens and why, and support families who wish to participate or to simply understand.

  • Shmirah support: Shmirah is the spiritual vigil -- the practice of keeping a watchful, prayerful presence with the deceased from the time of death until burial. I can help families organize Shmirah, provide resources, and in some circumstances participate.

  • Jewish advance planning: Helping Jewish individuals document their wishes for Jewish burial -- including the use of a traditional shroud (tachrichim), burial in a Jewish cemetery, and other specifics of Jewish custom -- so that family members are not making these decisions under the pressure of grief.

  • Grief support within a Jewish framework: Supporting Jewish families in mourning through an understanding of shiva, shloshim, and the Jewish framework for grief -- which, in my experience, carries profound wisdom about how to hold loss.

For Families Across the Spectrum of Jewish Practice

Jewish practice spans a wide and beautiful spectrum, from secular to Orthodox and everything in between. My support is not prescriptive. I meet families where they are, helping them understand their options, honor what matters to them, and make decisions that feel authentic to their particular relationship with Jewish tradition.

If your family is navigating the intersection of Jewish tradition and end-of-life in Los Angeles, I would be honored to support you.
